Scar Reduction & Skin Camouflage

Pigment matched to your own skin tone, worked into scar tissue or stretch marks to soften how much they stand out. It won't erase anything — nothing does — but it can be the difference between something you notice every day and something you stop thinking about.

Let's be straight about this

What it can do, and what it can't

Skin camouflage deposits pigment matched to the skin around a scar, reducing the contrast that makes it visible. Less contrast can make the area less noticeable.

What it can do: soften how much a pale, flat scar or stretch mark stands out against surrounding skin.

What it can't do: remove a scar, change its texture, flatten raised tissue, or make skin look untouched.

Most people who are happy with the result describe it as "I stopped noticing it" rather than "it's gone". If you are hoping for complete removal, this treatment may not be the right option.

We assess suitability before booking. Please send a clear, well-lit daylight photo and we can explain whether the treatment is likely to be suitable for the area.

Honest assessment

Is this right for you?

Please read both suitability columns carefully before deciding whether to enquire.

This will likely work well for you

  • The scar is pale or white (hypopigmented) and flat
  • It's fully healed and mature — at least 12 months old, ideally longer
  • The colour and texture have stopped changing
  • Stretch marks that have faded to white or silver
  • Skin tone around the area is stable and even
  • You want it less noticeable, not gone

Age helps. A scar that's been settled for several years is far more predictable to work with than one that's just past the twelve-month mark.

Let's talk first, or wait

  • The scar is red, purple or pink — it isn't mature yet. Wait.
  • It's raised (keloid or hypertrophic) — pigment doesn't change texture, and working on keloid tissue can worsen it
  • Freckled skin, age spots or spider veins — surrounding tone is too variable to match
  • Port-wine stains and birthmarks — a different category, and a dermatologist's territory
  • Hyperpigmentation — the scar is darker than your skin, and adding pigment makes it more visible
  • Unstable vitiligo — patches still spreading will move away from any match
  • Pregnancy, diabetes, autoimmune conditions, keloid history, chemotherapy, or blood thinners

If one of these points applies to you, please message us with a clear photo and the relevant details. We can explain whether it is better to wait, proceed with additional clearance, or speak with an appropriate medical professional first.

On the day

How it works

Built gradually across two sessions. Scar tissue takes pigment unevenly, and forcing it in one sitting gives a worse result.

Photo consultation

Before booking. Send a daylight photo. We will explain whether skin camouflage may be suitable and what you can reasonably expect.

Before booking

Patch test

For most clients we patch-test first — both for reaction and to see how your skin takes pigment. Scar tissue behaves differently from normal skin.

Separate appointment

Colour matching

Matching pigment to your skin tone in natural light is an important part of the consultation and treatment planning process.

~30 min

Application & review

Numbing cream, then pigment worked in with light passes and built gradually. Reviewed after healing — most people need at least one touch-up.

The full detail

Before, during and after

Everything you'd want to know, tucked away so it's here when you need it and out of the way when you don't.

Before your appointment
  • No sun, tanning or self-tan for two weeks — we're matching your true skin tone
  • No alcohol for 24 hours, no blood thinners for 48 (unless prescribed — never stop prescribed medication without your doctor)
  • Please avoid fresh tanning before your appointment, as the colour match can change as the tan fades
  • Please bring photos of the area in different lighting if you have them
Aftercare
  • Keep the area clean and dry for the first 24 hours
  • Apply the ointment we give you thinly, twice daily
  • Don't pick or scratch — flaking is normal and pulling it takes pigment with it
  • No swimming, saunas or heavy sweating for 10 days
  • No sun on the area at all while healing
  • Once healed, sunscreen on the area, always. UV shifts the pigment out of match faster than anything else.
Healing and results
  • Days 1–3Darker and more obvious than the final result.
  • Days 4–10Flaking; the area may look patchy.
  • Days 10–30Colour settles as skin heals.
  • Weeks 6–8True result visible; touch-up assessed.

Expect to need a touch-up. Scar tissue is less predictable than normal skin, and building up gradually across two sessions gives a better match than trying to achieve it in one.

Longevity: 12–24 months, then a gradual fade. It doesn't disappear suddenly and it won't turn a strange colour — it softens back toward where you started.

Terms and honest limitations
  • Results vary considerably between individuals, and we can't guarantee a specific outcome
  • Not suitable for raised, keloid or hypertrophic scars
  • Not suitable for hyperpigmented (darker) scars
  • Skin tone changes with sun exposure and season; a match made in one season may drift in another

Common questions

The things clients ask most

Will it remove my scar?

No. The aim is to reduce the contrast between the scar and the surrounding skin so it appears less noticeable. Results vary depending on the scar, skin tone and how the area heals.

Does it hurt?

Numbing cream is applied first. Sensation varies — scar tissue often has less feeling than surrounding skin, sometimes more. Tell us and we'll adjust.

How long after an injury or surgery can I be treated?

At least 12 months, and longer is better. The scar needs to be fully mature, with colour and texture settled. Working on an immature scar gives poor results and can affect healing.

Will it work on stretch marks?

Often, if they're white or silver and flat. Red or purple stretch marks are still maturing — wait. Textured stretch marks won't change in texture.

How many sessions?

Usually two: the initial session, then a touch-up at six to eight weeks. Larger or more stubborn areas may need more, and we'll be upfront about that at consultation.

What if my skin tone changes?

Pigment is matched to your tone at the time of treatment. Significant tanning or lightening afterwards can shift the match. Sunscreen helps considerably.

Can I see before and after photos?

We can show examples where clients have given explicit written permission. Many understandably don't, so our gallery is smaller than for other treatments. Please don't read that as a lack of experience.

What if you think it won't help?

We'll tell you. It happens reasonably often, and we'd much rather say so than take a booking you'll be disappointed by.

For the curious

Scar camouflage requires careful assessment

Very few artists in Singapore do it, and it demands more colour-matching skill than any other pigment work.

It builds on semi-permanent makeup fundamentals — pigment theory, skin typing and colour correction — which is where our six-day programme starts. Message us if you'd like to talk about the path.
